MF Gordon

For over 50 years MF Gordon has been an integral part of the South Australian Joinery market. The continued success has been achieved by keeping a high standard of products and reliable delivery times.

The company has been involved in many well known installations throughout SA, including the Treasury building, the Dublin Hotel, the Seaford Tavern and the Leigh St redevelopment.

The Managing Directors, Kevin and Val Kuehl have been in the industry over 35 years and now employ 14 people in the family owned business.

To keep this standard, Kevin and Val initiated a strategic plan to invest in, and update their production methods.

The two machines that have had the most impact on the companies production are the Masterwood CNC mortising machine and an automated tenoning machine, both from Gabbett Machinery.

With much of their work being singular runs of windows, doors, frames and stairs Kevin and Val found a significant amount of production time was being used in both machine setup, and machine testing. These labour intensive jobs added significant costs to the final product.

With the introduction of the CNC mortiser, labour times in their production have been significantly reduced. Rather than manually setting up traditional style machines, the operator now calls up a predetermined program. The CNC machine automatically calculates the machinings required.

The operator is only required to ensure the work piece is fed against the machines stops.

The more recent addition was the automatic tenoner. Both Kevin and Val have seen an improvement in quality with its introduction.

Other areas in their workshop have also been updated, including the addition of an SCM automatic wide belt sander and Tigerstop automatic measuring systems. All these improvements have been designed to improve the companies position in the market and subsequently increase market share.
