Window and door manufacturers were treated to one of the most comprehensive displays of manufacturing
technology at Gabbett Group’s recent exhibition in their Sydney showroom.
Aimed at both the Aluminium and Timber manufacturers, the exhibition focussed on producing components
with more accuracy and speed than traditional methods.
One of the most popular machines on display was the new Action line range of CNC machines from SCM.
Incorporating both drilling and routing functions, and fitted
with an onboard tool-changer, this machine demonstrated all
facets of window and door manufacturing.
Preassembled doors were
machined to finished size, while a horizontal routing head
machined other details required such as lock cut-outs, hinge
recess’ and sliding door runners.
Assembled windows were also machined perfectly square and to
finished size. During this process the SCM also machined grooves
for weather seals and any other profiles, rebates or grooves
required.
In addition to door manufacturing, the demonstration focussed on
louvre blind and shutter production. The highlight of this
production was the Masterwood oscillating chisel mortiser, its
unique design allows a sequence of mortises, slots or both for
windows, doors, shutters and louvre components – without
repositioning the work piece.
Probably the most appreciated feature on the oscillating chisel
mortiser from Gabbett is the ease of operation “NO MORE SETTING
OUT”. Window Sashes, Doors Styles, Louvres are all produced
without having to mark a single piece of timber. The program is
simply recalled and the new length given, the software makes the
calculations based on a set of parameter (that you decide on).
Right or left components are all calculated and machined
automatically.
